Something amazing that happened this week, Sister Armstrong and I were out walking and ran into a guy who was interested in the Gospel! We walked and talked with him for about and hour, gave him a book of Mormon, and also provided a way that where ever he is from, he could get a hold of the missionaries in the area. I know that Heavenly Father Works in mysterious ways- the odds of us meeting him the way we did was nothing short of Heavenly Guidance. Another wonderful experience- We were out tracting and being rejected at every door. I felt like we should stop going in order of doors, pray, and knock on whatever door we felt inspired to do. After walking and passing about 8 houses I decided to knock on a random house (later I recognized that it was inspired.) The door was opened, and the mother who saw us was really nice. I think that it was because of her little girl who invited us in that we found out that she use to visit with the LDS missionaries before she moved and had children. She said that her family would love to listen to us and that we could come back! After many doors of rejections and humiliation, this was a tender mercy!
At Zone conference, the theme was a Zion Mission. In Moses 7:18 it talks about how the Lord called his people Zion and all of his people were 'one'. Zion means Unity. Unity in; purpose, goals, efforts... When us as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day saints are unified, we can do marvelous works! If only a few payed tithing very little could be done. But when we are 'one' and pay tithing- temples are built, missionaries are sent out, aid is given to the needy... Think how this could apply to visiting and home teaching, or fulfilling callings? If only a few do what they were asked by Heavenly Father to do (because any calling was inspired and is similar to you being asked by God to do something) than little is accomplished. But if we all were 'one'- many people would be attending church, no one would be struggling or alone, and the Gospel of Jesus Christ would spread across the earth and touch the hearts of many. An interesting analogy that I hear this week was "Is your branch, ward, stake... Like an ER or a Doctors office? When someone is in great need does everyone rally together to help heal and uplift that person? That is wonderful if that is the case! But do you have 'doctors' who can provide the necessity of things like an immunization or prescribe medications? That type of care comes from our simple callings of home or visiting teacher. It is wonderful to help someone when they are in great need. But it is even better to stop the issue before it becomes too late."
I know that it is not always easy to get out and fulfill your calling each and every day. But the Lord would not have given it to you UNLESS he Knew that you could do it! (1 Nephi 3:7) We have been asked to go and 'feed' Christ's sheep.
I hope that everyone has a wonderful week and that they know that Heavenly Father, Mother, and everyone they knew before this life are cheering them onward! They all know that you can do it!! Pray and seek the inspiration and happiness you need to fulfill all that the Lord has asked of you!
Love, Sister Elgaaen
