July 24, 2017 Serving and being Blessed!

This week went way too fast! If time keeps going at this speed soon I will be home, and New York will of been just a dream.
In church the main focus this month has been on the commandments. If  you were asked to pick a favorite commandment what would it be? There are TONS of commandments that the Lord has given to his people over the many years there have been people on the  Earth. Each one is for a purpose, has a higher reason for it, and ALL of them were given out of love. If I had to only pick 3 commandments one of them would be keeping the Sabbath day holy. For the past 3 years at least, the prophets and apostles have been telling us to make sure that Sunday is a special day where we can go, renew our covenants, and draw closer to the Lord.

The second would be to forgive others. This is not one of the famous 10, but in D&C we are told to forgive All men.

The last and Greatest of Coarse would be to Love God, and also to Love our fellow men. "A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another." (John 13:34,35) If you keep this commandment, you are bound to obey with exactness all the others.
Christ says, "If ye love me, Keep my Commandments."  I do have a deep Love for the Savior. It is not always easy or popular to be obedient. Something that a speaker said on Sunday was, 'you need to obey the commandments with exactness, like  your life depends on it! Because in reality it does. If we do or don't determines how we will spend the next Eternity. You must also live the commandments like your testimony depends on it. If you don't continue to obey and stretch your capacities, you will eventually shrink and have no desire to improve or obey."
Jesus Christ is my BEST Friend. He has Always been there for me, even when I have let him down. I know that He ALWAYS will be willing to help pick me up, dust me off, and lead me back home. Keeping the Commandments is just a simple and small thing that I can do to show my adoration and Love for someone who shows me everyday that He is aware of me.
I hope that we all can continue to build our relationship with our Savior Jesus Christ, and live the commandments like our lives and Testimonies depend on it!

On Wednesday the day after Zone Conference- and a Huge pump up, We were walking around down town Oneida talking to whomever would listen when a man came up to us. His name was Daniel, and when we asked him what we could help him with- he was not really sure. He randomly had decided to try and visit a building in Oneida and was unsure of where it was. After seeing our name tags and JESUS CHRIST in large letters, he almost started crying and told us about how he was 'saved' by Jesus not too long ago and how he knew that with His help, he would be healed.
We testified of Christ's church being restored and the book of Mormon- which he accepted, and set a time on Friday when we could give him a church tour (my very first one). On Friday he was Early to the church! So we did not get to set up anything. But before we started we shared the restoration. The spirit in the building was very powerful. Daniel wants to be baptized and after showing him the church, he said that he felt like he was home! Daniel attended church on Sunday (along with 4 other investigators) and I know that he was lead to us that Wednesday evening.
At Zone conference, a video of Elder Holland was watched, this story touched my heart.

Elder Holland closed by relating a story—being careful to protect the privacy and anonymity of the participants—of a young man from southern Idaho. One night the young man stormed out of the house and set off to join an infamous motorcycle gang. He succeeded in that resolve and for 20 years became immersed in a culture “of temptations yielded to and degradation's explored,” never contacting his parents, who feared that he was dead.
Eventually ending up in Southern California, he one day was sitting on the porch of a rented home when he saw two LDS missionaries making their way up the street.
“With a rush of memory and guilt, regret, and rage, he despised the very sight of them,” Elder Holland recounted. “But he was safe, because he kept all visitors at bay by employing two Doberman pinschers, who viciously charged the gate every moment that anyone came near.”
The dogs startled the missionaries as they passed by and continued on, “our man on the porch laughing at the lovely little drama he had just witnessed, wishing only that the gate hadn’t restrained his two dogs.”
Then, the two elders stopped, looked at each other, conversed a little, “likely said a silent prayer,” then turned around and approached the gate.
“The Dobermans on cue charged the gate again, hit it, snarling, frothing, and then stopped in their tracks,” Elder Holland said. “They looked at the missionaries, dropped their heads, ambled back to the front steps, and lay down.”
The man on the porch was speechless as the missionaries opened the gate, walked up the path, and greeted him.
“One of the elders said, ‘Are you from this part of California?’
“The man said, ‘No. If you want to know, I’m from Pocatello, Idaho.’
“There was a pause. ‘That’s interesting,’ the elder said. ‘Do you know the [such-and-such] family in Pocatello?’
“With a stunned look, our biker paused and then, in very measured words said, ‘Yeah, I know them. They are my parents.’
“‘Well, they’re my parents too,’ the missionary said. ‘God has sent me to invite you to come home.’”
The younger brother had been born after the older boy had left home. The elder brother did not even know of him.
“Mom and Dad have been praying for you every morning and night for 20 years,” the younger brother said. “They were not sure you were alive, but they knew if you were, that someday you would come back to us.”
The wayward son invited the two in, and they talked for the rest of the day and some of the night. He did return home, returned to Church activity, and, in March 2015, was married and sealed in the Boise Idaho Temple.
Commenting on the account, Elder Holland said, “This is a story of the role of Almighty God, the Savior of the World, and the Holy Ghost involved in the work of the ministry to which we’ve been called.
“The Holy Ghost prompted those parents to keep praying, to keep believing, to keep trusting. … The Holy Ghost inspired that rebellious boy to come to himself like the prodigal he was and to head for California. … The Holy Ghost influenced that younger son to serve a mission and be willing to accept a call to Southern California. … The Holy Ghost inspired one of my brethren in the Twelve, who was on the assignment desk that Friday, to trust his impression and assign that young man for service not a great distance from his native-born state. The Holy Ghost inspired that mission president to assign that young missionary to that district and that member unit. The Holy Ghost led those missionaries to that street, that day, that hour, with big brother sitting on the porch waiting, and, with Doberman pinschers notwithstanding, the Holy Ghost prompted those two elders to stop, talk, and in spite of their fear, to go back and present their message. …
“And through the elders, the Holy Ghost taught repentance and brought true conversion to one coming back into the fold.”
Elder Holland said the young elder, without realizing it, gave the missionary speech of all time, when he said to his brother, “God has sent me here to invite you to come home.”
“We are sent by God to invite His children home,” Elder Holland concluded. “We do that through the Holy Ghost, the Comforter, the Spirit of Truth, on the strength of the Atonement of Jesus Christ. Welcome to the divine companionship.”

I know that as a missionary I was called by the Lord to be in Oneida New York. I know that if I remain worthy of the Spirit many more miracles like on Wednesday will happen and be more easy to recognize. I know that the Spirit of the Lord can become a 'divine companionship' if we but remain worthy for it.
Each of us was promised the Holy Ghost as a comforter when we were baptized. I know that He truly is a gift- and will be the guide for miracles.
Let us all work on remaining worthy of this Gift.

July 10, 2017 What a Week!

This week was full of meeting new people and continuing to familiarize myself with Oneida. There are so many people here who need the Gospel. I know that the field truly is White and ready to harvest. The holiday was wonderful and nothing to crazy happened :)    I wore patriotic socks the entire day and actually made a lady cry to see someone so patriotic- she even let me read her a scripture in 2 Nephi 1 about America and wanted to meet with us again!    The craziest thing happened last night. President Rogers called and told us that a companionship was not getting along and Heavenly Father was assigning Sister Fry to switch places. It has been far to short of a time to serve with sister Fry, but I know that Heavenly Father has a plan for her and that she is needed somewhere else.
The thing that I have really learned about this week was Endurance. Joseph Smith once said, "You are now placed in a situation where you can act according to those sympathies which God has planted in your bosoms. If you live up to these principles how great and glorious! If you live up to your privilege the angels cannot be restrained from being your associated."    What I get from this is that we are all in different situations of our life where we are stretched and pulled in ways as to increase our capacities/ Gifts which we have been given. If we do ALL that we can, If we continue to do our best, and If we hold tight to the Lord's outstretched hand and follow his council- then angels will be our constant companions and Heaven will pour out blessings upon us.
I may not have seen too many things so far while serving the Lord, but I am a witness that this is true. There has never been, nor will be a time that Heavenly Father would leave us alone or with hold the blessings of heaven from us If we do ALL that we are able. We must give our best efforts to the Lord in our callings and duties- He will bless us beyond our expectations.
The world is full of various situations. No one is going to see a problem the same way. But we have a big brother who Knows all the answers, and understands our frustrations- who is more than willing to give His ALL to us. We must prepare ourselves to do the same.
I hope that we can all learn from Christ's ultimate example and always give our ALL. It will always be enough.

July 3, 2017 Rain!

This week was wonderful!! It was transfers and I was called to serve in Oneida! My new Companions are Sister Green and Sister Fry. It has been crazy fun and spiritual being in this threesome! I am grateful and excited to work with both of them.

On Sunday I read Elder Uchtdorf's talk about "Perfect Love Casteth out Fear" Here are a bunch of parts that I really enjoyed; " The Lord has said that 'when we... exercise control or dominion or compulsion upon the souls of the children of men, in any degree of unrighteousness,... the heavens withdraw themselves and the spirit of the Lord is grieved.'"   This made me think of as missionaries, when we go around and try to use boldness without love or commit someone to make a change without promising them blessings and helping them understand the purpose behind it- the spirit is not there and things never go well.   "the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness and temperance." [Galatians 5:22-23]   When we have the spirit with us when we invite others to come unto Christ- they can feel the spirit and love, and desire to listen and obey.
Do not dwell on the evils of the world. 'God has given us an abundance of reasons to rejoice. We just need to find and recognize them.' we should not be ignorant about the world's challenges. ' But this does not mean that we should burden ourselves or others with constant fear.'   It is better to focus on Christ's ultimate power and the Lord's willingness to fight our battles than ponder about the things we have no control over.  There are a few people that we teach with anxiety- the idea that Christ has already won (John 16:33), and that all things will work out (D&C 90:24) should bring comfort and strength.
"Perfect Love casteth out all fear" (1 John 4:18)
There is no fear in Christ's love.
If we center our lives and teachings on the Lord Jesus Christ, then what have we to fear? What in this world could ever take away our faith and our perfect knowledge that we are loved by a being who gave his life for us?
There is nothing that could ever get in the way of that. Basing relationships, and interactions on the joy of the Gospel and on the Love of Christ will allow for the spirit to perside, and miricles to happen.
I hope that everyone has a week full of Charity and patience for themselves and especially those around them who make it hard.
Have a wonderful week!

June 26, 2017 An Overload of Tender Mercies!

This week almost did not happen! It went way to fast. If I could I would do it all over again (it was that full of miracles)
The first thing that we did was pick up four new investigators!! Most of them are farther away, but they all seem fairly solid. So the next new Sister to come to Hamilton with Sister Armstrong will be well on her way to committing many to draw closer to there savior and be baptized.
The Highlight of the week was Kaiden's BAPTISM!!
Sister Elgaaen, Kaiden, & Sister Armstrong at Kaiden's Baptism
He is just a child, but it was still something that I will hold as a treasure for a long time. The planning was all worth it, everything seemed to just work out better than planned, and lots of people came.
The Last amazing thing was having a potential attend Church to hear me talk! Her neighbor is our branch mission leader. His wife asked me to volunteer to give a talk on Sunday so that she would have a reason to invite Pam White. I did ask, get assigned, and She came!! We asked her about her experience, and she told us that it was like all of the talks were prepared for her :)
The talk that I volunteered to give was on "Finding Christ in Other's"
Finding can be explained in D&C 88:63, "...seek me diligently and ye shall find me..."  If we truly desire to have an answer, or come to a conclusion about something, all we need to do is diligently search for it and desire it.   Before we can find Christ in others, we have to find it in ourselves first. The best way to find Christ is to learn about Him and work on becoming more like Him. The main three attributes that I think of for Christ are; Faith, Hope, and Charity.   Faith is a complete trust or confidence in Heavenly Father, Hope is manifested in optimism an patience towards something, and Charity never fails and is the pure love of Christ. So, after finding Christ in yourself and developing those attributes, you can look for it in others.
The first step for 'finding Christ in other's' is seeing them how Christ would see them. D&C 18:10, "The worth of souls is great in the sight of God."   This poem also gives a great example on how Christ views others.

The touch of the Master's Hand
by: Myra Brooks Welch
'Twas battered and scarred,
And the auctioneer thought it
hardly worth his while
To waste his time on the old violin,
but he held it up with a smile.
"What am I bid, good people", he cried,
"Who starts the bidding for me?"
"One dollar, one dollar, Do I hear two?"
"Two dollars, who makes it three?"
"Three dollars once, three dollars twice, going for three,"
But, No,
From the room far back a gray bearded man
Came forward and picked up the bow,
Then wiping the dust from the old violin
And tightening up the strings,
He played a melody, pure and sweet
As sweet as the angel sings.
The music ceased and the auctioneer
With a voice that was quiet and low,
Said "What now am I bid for this old violin?"
As he held it aloft with its' bow.
"One thousand, one thousand, Do I hear two?"
"Two thousand, Who makes it three?"
"Three thousand once, three thousand twice,
Going and gone", said he.
The audience cheered,
But some of them cried,
"We just don't understand."
"What changed its' worth?"
Swift came the reply.
"The Touch of the Masters Hand."
"And many a man with life out of tune
All battered and bruised with hardship
Is auctioned cheap to a thoughtless crowd
Much like that old violin
A mess of pottage, a glass of wine,
A game and he travels on.
He is going once, he is going twice,
He is going and almost gone.
But the Master comes,
And the foolish crowd never can quite understand,
The worth of a soul and the change that is wrought
By the Touch of the Masters' Hand.

We are all not perfect, and thus battered and scared with sins (even if the scars are small and more like scratches- none of us are perfect.) With the Master, we all can be perfected and seen as of value. In 1 Samuel 16:7 it says, "...the Lord seeth not as a man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart."   To truly Find Christ in other's we must recognize there value and look inward. Elder Eyring mentioned in this past general conference, "If you walk with the savior long enough, you will learn to see everyone as a child of God with limitless potential, regardless of what his or her past may have been."   If we have diligently searched, come close to the Savior ourselves- then we will easily be able to see Christ in Other's and be better able to help them see it themselves.
I hope that Everyone has a new resolve to draw closer to there Savior this week. I know that He is patiently waiting for us all to turn to Him, so that He can help us see the potential and greatness in others.
I Love serving the Lord and being privileged enough to view people like this all the time!
